Ingredients for Another amazing French onion soup!
- 1 tablespoon butter + drizzle of olive oil
- 2 garlic cloves, thinly sliced
- 4 large onions, julienne slices
- 2 shallots, julienne slices
- 1/2 cup white wine/ or white wine vinegar
- leaves bay
- 1/2 teaspoon dried oregano or thyme
- salt
- 1 liter chicken/beef/vegetable broth
- salt and black pepper
- 1 tablespoon flour (any)
- Topping
- slices Toasted sourdough bread or baguette
- your favourite cheese (I used gruyère + parmesan)
Cooking Instructions for making Another amazing French onion soup!
Melt butter in a pot (I used Dutch oven pot) with some olive oil and start cooking the onion and garlic on medium. Add salt, black pepper, oregano, and bay leaves, mix, then cover the pot and turn the heat to medium/low. Stir occasionally every 10 minutes
After almost 45 minutes, the onions should be perfectly caramelised. Remove the bay leaves. Add a tablespoon of flour and mix again for another 2-3minutes.
Add a splash of wine, scraping the bottom of the pan with a spatula to loosen the browned bits of food.
Gradually add your favourite broth as you stir. Bring to a simmer and let it cook for an additional 20 minutes.
Toast some bread in the oven or toaster. Pour the soup into oven-proof bowls. Add the toasted bread on top of the soup and sprinkle some of your favourite cheese. Place under the grill for a few minutes just until the cheese melts. Bon appétit! 😍
