Ingredients for My Braising Steak in Onion Gravy with Mashed Potato & Peas
- 1 large Onion sliced strips
- Braising Steak
- 2 Dried Beef Stock cubes
- 1 dried Veg Stock cube
- 1 heaped tbls Tomato pureรจ
- 1 tbls Cornflour mixed in a little cold water

Cut the Braising Steak into chunky pieces
Slice up the Onion
In a frying pan add a little olive oil, heat up add the braising steak chunks and the onions stir just to colour the steak and soften the onions add 1/4 tsp Black pepper stir in.
Remove the mix from the frying pan into a casserole dish or oven dish. In the frying pan add 1+1/2 pints of boiling water and stir in the beef and veg dried stock to mix.
Add to an oven dish with a lid to a pre- heated oven 180ยฐ /gas 7 and cook for 10 minutes. Then lower the oven to 160ยฐ gas 5 up to the hour.
Take out of the oven mix the cornflour to thicken add more if you like it very thick stir in.
Next add the Tomato pureรจ add a little salt then add back to the oven for a further half an hour. Without the lid. Bring to boil then turn low 160ยฐ for the rest of the time.
During that time boil and mash the potatoes with butter and cook the veg of your choice I like peas with this.
Take out the braising steak from the oven using a slotted spoon take out the softened braising steak and onion add to the serving plates, with Mashed Potato and peas. Then using a ladle pour the gravy over the steak and mashed potatoes.
