Ingredients for Spring Onion and Ginger Oil
- 1 cup FINELY CHOPPED Spring onion or scallions (PACKED)
- 1/3 C FINELY MINCED young ginger
- 2/3 cup neutral cooking oil
- 1 tbsp sesame oil
- 1/2 tsp salt (adjust to taste)
- 1 tsp FINELY MINCED garlic (OPTIONAL)
Cooking Instructions for making Spring Onion and Ginger Oil
Gather and preps all ingredients.
Finely mince ginger and spring onion or scallions and keep in 2 separate plates or bowls.
To mince spring onion or scallions 👉🏻 we use mostly the white part (18-20 cm). Cut stems into thin strips then mince the strips into fine bits. See pic. keep aside.
To mince ginger 👉🏻 slice ginger into a very thin slices. Cut the slices into strips and continue to cut the strips into a very fine bits. Keep aside.
💡 Alternatively, you can also use mincer, grater or food processor.
Next, heat up wok and add cooking oil. The oil should be hot (but not smoking hot). Once the oil is ready, add minced ginger, continue to stir and cook for 15-20 seconds.
Add spring onion or scallions. Continue to stir and cook for another 20-30 seconds. Then turn the heat off. Immediately transfer the sauce to a bowl.
Season the sauce with sesame oil and salt. Mix well. Taste the sauce and adjust the salt accordingly.
💡 Alternatively, you can also combine all the minced/chopped ingredients and salt in a bowl. Then heat up the oil until very hot. Pour this hot oil into the ginger onion mixture. Mix well. Add sesame oil and adjust salt accordingly and it’s done.
