Ingredients for Yam porridge / Asaro
- .2-3 medium-sized yams, peeled and cut into small cubes.Palm oil.1 onion, chopped.2 cloves garlic, and 1 teaspoon grated ginger.Dry or smoked fish cut into small pieces (optional). crayfish
- . seasoning cubes.Salt and pepper, to taste.2 cups water.2 tablespoons tomato paste or fresh tomatoes (optional)
Cooking Instructions for making Yam porridge / Asaro
Heat oil in a large pot over medium heat.
.Add onion, garlic, and ginger; stir until the onion is fried
Add the yam cubes and stir well.
. Add dry or smoked fish (if using) and stir well.
Add seasoning cubes, crayfish, salt, and pepper; stir well.
Pour in water and bring to boil.
Reduce heat to low and simmer for 20-25 minutes, or until the yams are tender.
Use a wooden spoon or masher to mash some of the yams and thicken the porridge.
If using tomato paste, fresh tomatoes stir it in add in the alefo or ugu during the last 5 minutes of cooking.
Serve hot and enjoy!!

– You can add other ingredients like fish, shrimp, or vegetables(Ugu, alefo) to suit your taste.
